Trauma Therapy
Trauma Recovery for Women & Girls
Service Description
🌿 Trauma Counselling and Therapy Supporting Deep Healing for Women - Upper North Shore, Northern Beaches & Online Telehealth Trauma isn’t always a single event. Sometimes it’s something that happened and won’t let go. Sometimes it’s a slow accumulation of experiences - being ignored, unseen, silenced, overwhelmed, or forced to mask who you really are to feel safe or accepted. You may not even call it trauma, but you feel it in your nervous system: feelings of freeze, panic, collapse. The emotional floods or the numbing disconnect. The push-pull between wanting closeness and fearing it. That constant vigilance, or sense that something is just off inside. These experiences are incredibly common for women - and even more so for those who are neurodivergent, or who use substances to regulate overwhelming states. Trauma, addiction, and neurodivergence often intersect. And when they do, healing must meet all three. We offer trauma-informed therapy for women and girls on Sydney’s Upper North Shore, the Northern Beaches, and Australia-wide via telehealth, grounded in safety, regulation, and relational repair. Unresolved trauma can lead to substance use as a form of coping — to feel something, or to feel nothing at all. For neurodivergent women especially, trauma often begins young: from being misunderstood, overstimulated, masked, excluded, or pathologised. These early experiences leave lasting imprints on the nervous system. Many clients arrive here having tried traditional therapy or addiction programs and felt missed. What works for others doesn’t always work for your brain. And if you’ve lived in survival mode for years, it’s hard to even imagine what true safety feels like. Aly Birmingham draws from over two decades of clinical and personal experience to create a therapeutic space where healing can happen gently, layer by layer — on your timeline. Her approach is integrative, body-aware, and shaped by deep understanding of trauma, addiction, and neurodivergent minds. You’ll never be rushed, pathologised, or asked to process more than you’re ready for. Instead, you’ll be supported to reconnect with your body, your story, and the parts of you that have been carrying pain for too long.
